Singing Christmas carols goes all the way back to the first Christmas. Luke’s Gospel records four different songs as he gives the Christmas story. In the weeks leading up to Christmas Day, our sermon sermon series is tracking the story of Jesus’ birth through these very first Christmas songs.
When John the Baptist was born, Zechariah broke out into a song of praise. When Mary was told she would be the mother of the Messiah, she broke out into song. The angels sang to the Shepherds that first Christmas night, and when Simeon saw Jesus he took the child in his arms and sang the fourth Christmas carol.
